Online Bullying: Should Laws be Made?

I am sure you all have heard of this story where a 13yr old girl killed herself after a woman poses as a boy on myspace and demeans and talks down to this girl.

Prosecutors say no laws were broken.

A girl kills herself over statements made.

What do you all think?

I don't think that laws should be made specifically for the internet...I mean, it's the internet, tracking these things would be difficult, if not impossible. After all, if someone is being openly bullied online they can just stop talking to them. However, in cases of continual harassment which it is impossible to ignore, spreading vicious rumors and damaging someone's reputation, identity theft, etc., the courts should treat these actions just as if they were being done in real life. In other words, if it is having a clear detrimental effect on the life of another person (and somehow I don't think saying "You suck" online would do so) the person should be able to take legal action to prevent it.

Great blog :) Mine's at www.lizaveeta.com
